a blog about my gaming experience with the Demigod "Oak" and surely some more stuff....
how to make ur fellow game fan sick...
Published on August 8, 2009 By Microstar In Demigod Multiplayer

Dear DG Community,

do i really have to check the settings of each and every game i enter before pressing ready  ?!?!

If u say yes..u can stop reading here:

BUT: Here comes the problem. I see more and more players focussing their strats on a special game setting...whatever...fast xp rate, slow flag capture, long respawn, creeps, etc.,

Trained to that setting they just overwhelm random teams that expect a regular game. U expect a tower do a special dmg...but suddenly it does twice...or u expect u can cap the flag over there ...but u cant..cause it takes ages....and so on and on...u just loose cause u dont know what settings are done....

The solution:  If the game is done in standard settings.....RANK it.....if settings are costumized....its UNRANKED....that would prevent such ..forgive...SHITTY behavior.....

If u was fair enough to inform enemy team about the different settings...all is cool...but dont trick them in ur special game.

over and out ...da micro

The only thing I'd really want as a tool against this - problem or not - is that there is an indicator in the list of games or in the game's lobby to show that the options are non-default. An icing on the cake would be that the altered settings be highlighted in the options screen to make it easier to spot.

Granted, the 'problem' with nondefault games is more the impatient hosts who will boot you if you spend anything more than 5 seconds readying up. More than a couple of times have I been asked to ready up, and booted while skimming through the game settings screen as quickly as I can.

Agreed!

Anything would do...just a little comment in game chat when u enter game lobby.

Game settings: Costum

Game settings: Normal

I don't mind having custom game settings ranked, but I agree there should be an indicator of non-default settings in the lobby.

Until then, you are perfectly capable of checking the game settings yourself.  I do every time.

in newerth theres an icon for "advanced options" in the game list dont think itd be too hard to add that here, and little things like that can really change game experience

It should just have a little message in the chat box when you enter, that says "standard settings" or "custom settings." That way you'll know if you need to check the settings after you get in the game.

I recommended this in beta 3 back in March.

You're right, litle things like this can really make this game so much better.  This is a great game, it deserves better from the devs and the players.  I would love to see a lot of small changes and am really hopeful for v1.2.  That should really help a lot with the polish.  Let's hope sells are good enough that we end up getting an expansion and in the expansion they fix connections, because this is one of my top 5 games ever for fun when it works.

Hopefully the demo brings a new crop of players to keep gaspowered/stardock interested.

I'm with legolan here.. Just a warning on the lobby's chat box should be enough, IMO.

Is it really that hard to check the game setting before you play?

No, but sometimes you miss stuff. Heck, I joined one game, checked the settings, and they were all normal. The one thing I didn't think to look at was the FoW setting -- he had turned it off and didn't bother mentioning it. And he was Reg, hardly a coincidence. We still beat him though .

But really, it would be a lot nicer if it just had a little alert saying "standard settings" or "custom settings." I remember in SupCom when they implemented something that made it easier to see if a mod was enabled. Sure, you could have checked, but people forget. Pretty much everyone liked that update, and I certain that such a addition would be well received in Demigod as well.

for one, the settings shown on screen of the host and the screen of the other guys dont have to be the same! its bugged, but not every time. looks like there is a bug, which shows settings from previous games. (haven´t checked this with the newest patch)

second: for many other games, the options are shown right in the game-lobby. i.e. dawn of war (1). i suggested that a lot of times here in the forum, no response. that would help a lot.

i dont like to be forced to manually check the settings every fcking game or maybe get screwed otherwise. the idea to give the players a message if there are non-custom settings is great imo, because you dont have to programm and design a new box somewhere on the screen and it should be pretty easy to code something that checks all settings and prints a message in the chat-window. if you´d ask me, that should be programmed in less than 10minutes.
